Conclusion of Semester 1 & Presentation

So we’ve had our presentation, written the group report (70 pages) and just finishing off the individual reflection. I think as a team we’ve done pretty well. The experience as a whole has been invaluable: what it’s like to work with engineers, different types of people from different backgrounds, as we were a total mix on this minor. My presentation skills have improved, visuals have also become much faster as I wouldn’t dare ask an engineer to make a poster now – the result of that as I’ve seen is a lovely blue to orange gradient of some form and just … Continue reading Conclusion of Semester 1 & Presentation

Nigor Update II – With Prototype

Prototyping became underway this week with problem after problem appearing. Because we are strained for time we’ve had to improvise as the system is pretty complicated. In an ideal world we would of have multiple sketch models prior to finalize the size etc. but with multiple things ongoing at the same time this became more and more impossible. We had our frame of the mirror originally cut at laserbeest, but we didn’t really think about potential strain on the structure. So the structure fitted together ok to start with, but when we started hammering in the last bits gently the … Continue reading Nigor Update II – With Prototype

Photography

I’m starting this new category on this blog for photographs, as I find myself taking more and more playing with my Cannon 1200D. I don’t have any official experience with photography and just at the ‘playing’ stages at the minute. Trying to find out what I can do with it on my own, occasionally read a magazine on photography or two. I do want to get better but it’ll just take some time, which I don’t have an awful lot of at the minute! The general idea of this section is to commit to keep on trying. Anyway, if you … Continue reading Photography

Client Meeting – Nigor

Just a quick little update. We had our scheduled little meeting with Nigor today (acting as our client) to review the current designs & see what they think of it. Positivity was what we took from this today. We had to try push for hyper criticism, because a design is never perfect and there might be one or two every so slight little things, that if you tweak can make quite the difference. They gave us a guesstimated figure of €250 euro retail price, looking at our current price projections which need altering. We’ve now realised that they haven’t allowed for … Continue reading Client Meeting – Nigor

Happy 2015! – From Rotterdam

– An incredibly informal post, because it was just beautiful Cycling to the station on New Years Eve was like being in (dare I say it?) WWII. They let fireworks off in the streets everywhere here and not just the little ones. It’s every few seconds another will go off, fun when your on a bike. We went to Rotterdam for the Erasmus Bridge (Erasmusbrug) to see the midnight fireworks. Sat in the freezing cold on a concrete step waiting for the moment. Here’s a clip (apologies for the awful music, choice of the dutch 😉 ) and some photos … Continue reading Happy 2015! – From Rotterdam
